Preparing Room for Christ
Opening Your Heart to the Savior
Luke 2:10–11 — “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
Opening Reflection
Advent is more than a countdown to Christmas; it is the believer’s renewed invitation to make room for Christ. As we remember His first coming in Bethlehem and anticipate His promised return (John 14:3), Advent calls us to slow down, open our hearts, and welcome the presence and purposes of Jesus into our daily lives. Preparing room for Christ is not about sentiment—it is about surrender, hope, and deep gratitude for the Savior who came to redeem us and who will come again in glory (Revelation 22:12).
Taking a Devotional View
The birth of Jesus was God’s declaration that He had drawn near to us in love (John 1:14). Advent invites us to remember that the Savior who arrived in a manger continues to arrive in moments of quietness, surrender, and faith. When we pause long enough to reflect on His coming, we find that He is still Emmanuel—God with us (Matthew 1:23)—speaking peace into fear, joy into sorrow, and hope into the places that feel forgotten.
But Advent does more than turn our gaze backward. It also lifts our eyes toward the horizon of Christ’s return. The same Jesus who came once in humility will come again in power and glory (Acts 1:11). This future hope strengthens weary hearts, urging us to stand firm, “for the Lord is at hand” (Philippians 4:5). It quietly corrects the busyness that distracts us and the burdens that overwhelm us. Advent is a reminder that our King is coming, and His kingdom will not fail.
Preparing room for Christ means setting aside space in our lives for what matters most—His Word (Colossians 3:16), His presence (Psalm 16:11), and His purposes. It is choosing to respond to His invitation with renewed faith. This Advent season, let your heart echo the words of the psalmist: “My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning” (Psalm 130:6). In waiting, longing, believing, and worshipping, we are preparing room for Christ.
