Be Strong and Courageous
Courage and strength grow from God’s unshakable presence
Deuteronomy 31:6 — “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
Opening Reflection
Strength and courage are not self-generated virtues—they are gifts that flow from God’s constant nearness. When Moses charged Joshua and Israel to be strong, it was not a call to dig deep into self-reliance but to lean into divine presence. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the assurance that God is with us in the midst of it Deuteronomy 31:6.
Taking a Devotional View
God’s presence steadies us in transitions. Israel stood at the edge of change—new leadership, new land, unknown battles. Yet God’s word to Joshua was simple: “I will be with you” Joshua 1:5. His presence, not circumstances, determines our confidence.
God’s promises strengthen us against fear. He commands courage because He supplies it. “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God” Isaiah 41:10. When uncertainty looms or opposition rises, His Word becomes our anchor.
God’s Spirit empowers daily courage. Paul reminds believers that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control” 2 Timothy 1:7. Courage is not about never trembling—it is about relying on the Spirit who enables steady, faithful steps.
