Boasting Allowed
Joyfully sharing the joy of the Lord
Romans 5:11 — “More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
Opening Reflection
We often think of boasting as something to avoid, yet Paul tells us there is a kind of boasting God welcomes—a joyful, wholehearted exulting in who He is and what He has accomplished for us through Jesus Christ. When we truly grasp the depth of our reconciliation, boasting in the Lord becomes not arrogance, but adoration.
Taking a Devotional View
Romans 5 builds a beautiful progression: justified by faith, we receive peace with God, we stand in grace, we rejoice in hope, we are assured of His love, and we are saved by His life. All of this crescendos in one stunning truth—we can boast in God because our reconciliation is complete. Christ has finished what we never could.
This kind of boasting lifts our eyes from our failures and fixes them on the faithfulness of Christ. It replaces insecurity with confidence—not confidence in ourselves, but in the unchanging character of our Savior. When we boast in God, we are declaring that He is worthy, sufficient, powerful, and unfailingly good.
And this boasting becomes a witness. A watching world needs believers who joyfully glory in God, not in themselves. When our boast is Christ alone, our lives become a testimony of grace, gratitude, and gospel hope.
