Bringing Glory to God
The Need for Reflecting Christ’s Image
2 Corinthians 3:18 — “And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
Opening Reflection
Sinclair B. Ferguson once summarized the Christian life this way: “How do we bring glory to God? The Bible’s short answer is: by growing more and more like Jesus Christ.” This truth flows directly out of God’s design for His people. To glorify God is not simply to speak His praises, but to embody the likeness of His Son in thought, word, and action. When others see Jesus in us, God is magnified in the world.
Taking a Devotional View
Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 3:18 remind us that transformation into Christ’s image is both the work of God’s Spirit and the believer’s daily pursuit. As we behold the glory of Christ through Scripture and prayer, the Spirit chisels away our old self and forms in us the character of Jesus. Each degree of change, however small, testifies to the Spirit’s power and brings glory to God.
Bringing glory to God is therefore not about spectacular displays of ability but about steady conformity to Christ. Humility, obedience, forgiveness, compassion, and love are the fruit of His likeness in us. Jesus declared, “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit” John 15:8. When we imitate Christ’s example in the ordinary places of life—our homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods—we shine His light in ways that draw others to praise God.
This transformation is lifelong. We are not instantly remade, but “from one degree of glory to another.” This phrase gives hope to weary believers: progress, not perfection, glorifies God. Every step toward Christlikeness, empowered by His Spirit, fulfills our purpose. Thus, the most practical answer to “How do I glorify God?” is simply this: keep beholding Christ, keep depending on His Spirit, and keep becoming more like Him each day.
