God's Truth: Anchoring Our Lives in the Unchanging Truth of God
His Word Is Truth and His Son Is the Truth
John 17:17 — “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”
Opening Reflection
In an age of relativism, "your truth" and "my truth," confusion, and shifting opinions, God's truth stands eternal, absolute, and unchanging. He is the God of truth—incapable of lying, perfectly reliable, and the very source of all that is real and right. His truth is not cold fact but living reality that sets free, guides, and sanctifies. For believers, this attribute is our firm foundation: when everything else wavers, God's word and character remain trustworthy. In Jesus Christ, who declared "I am the way, and the truth, and the life" (John 14:6), we encounter truth in person—embodied, revealed, and accomplished for our salvation.
Taking a Devotional View
Scripture repeatedly affirms God's truthful nature. Numbers 23:19 states, "God is not man, that he should lie." Titus 1:2 speaks of "God, who never lies." The entirety of Scripture is breathed out by this truthful God (2 Timothy 3:16), making it our reliable guide. Jesus prayed in John 17 that His disciples would be sanctified—set apart and made holy—by the truth of God's word. Because Christ is the Word made flesh (John 1:14), He is the ultimate revelation of truth. Through Him, truth is not merely heard but known personally, liberating us from sin (John 8:32) and leading us into all truth by the Spirit (John 16:13).
For believers, anchoring in God's truth brings certainty amid confusion, freedom from deception, and direction for life. It guards against falsehood, strengthens faith when feelings falter, and fuels worship of the One who cannot lie. Because God is truth, His promises are sure, His judgments are just, and His word is life-giving. In Christ, we not only know truth—we are united to Truth Himself, called to walk in truth and speak truth in love.
