In Christ I Am Blessed with Every Spiritual Blessing

Already rich in Him, every blessing now in hand
Part 9 of 17 Series — What being “in Christ” personally means to you

Ephesians 1:3 — “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.”

Opening Reflection

Many believers approach God as if asking for spare change — hoping a particular blessing might be released, wondering if a need will be met, uncertain whether they have any standing to receive. The mindset is poverty even when the position is wealth. Scripture answers this directly: in Christ, every spiritual blessing has already been given, and the believer’s posture is no longer petitioning for what they lack but living from what they have.

Taking a Devotional View

Ephesians 1:3 opens what is in the Greek a single soaring sentence that runs through verse 14 — Paul’s catalog of what God has done for believers in Christ. The sentence begins with a comprehensive header and then itemizes the contents: chosen before the foundation of the world, predestined for adoption, redeemed through His blood, lavished with grace, brought into the mystery of His will, sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. Three modifiers in verse 3 frame the whole list. Every means nothing has been withheld. Spiritual names the kind — these are the heavenly, eternal blessings of the Spirit, not circumstantial windfalls. In the heavenly places means they are stored where moth and rust cannot reach them, secure beyond every earthly loss.

The location of these blessings matters as much as their content: every one of them is “in Christ.” The believer does not access them by working harder, qualifying, or finding the right technique. They are received the same way the believer first came to Christ — by faith, in the moment of union with Him. The implication reframes the Christian’s daily posture. Prayer is no longer begging from outside the family but the asking of a child who already holds an inheritance. Spiritual life is not the search for what one lacks but the discovery of what one has. Living from this inventory changes how a believer faces need, weakness, and uncertainty (2 Corinthians 1:20; 2 Peter 1:3).

Key Thoughts & Takeaways

Key Thoughts

  • In Christ, God has already given every spiritual blessing — comprehensive, spiritual in kind, and secure in the heavenly places (Ephesians 1:3).
  • These blessings are received the moment a person is united to Christ by faith, not earned by effort or technique (Ephesians 1:4-14).
  • This reality reframes prayer and daily life from petitioning for what is missing to living from what is already given (2 Corinthians 1:20; 2 Peter 1:3).

Ask Yourself

  • Where am I praying as if I were outside the family rather than as a child who already holds an inheritance?
  • Which of the blessings cataloged in Ephesians 1 do I most often forget I already possess?
  • How would today look different if I lived from the spiritual wealth I have in Christ rather than the lack I sometimes feel?

Heavenly Father, thank You that in Christ You have already blessed me with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Forgive the poverty mindset that keeps approaching You as a stranger when You have made me an heir. Open my eyes to the inheritance that is already mine, and teach me to live, pray, and serve today from the riches You have given in Your Son. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
