Joseph’s Dream

Persevering through God’s preparation

Genesis 37:5 — “Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more.”

Opening Reflection

The story of Joseph reminds us that divine purpose often begins with a dream, but reaches fulfillment through faith and endurance. God’s calling on Joseph’s life was real, but the route to its fulfillment wound through betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and prison. In every detour, God was not absent—He was preparing Joseph for the weight of what He had promised.

Taking a Devotional View

God’s dreams rarely unfold overnight—they grow through seasons that teach trust, endurance, and obedience. What looks like delay is often development. In the hidden places, God forms character that can carry calling. If our hearts are not ready, the very blessing we long for could become a burden we cannot bear.

Joseph learned to serve faithfully wherever he was placed—first in Potiphar’s house, then in prison. His circumstances did not define his faithfulness; his faithfulness defined his circumstances. When God’s moment arrived, Joseph was ready to steward influence with wisdom, humility, and forgiveness.

At the end of Joseph’s story, he could say to his brothers, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20). The dream was not abandoned—it was refined. When our dreams submit to God’s timing, they become part of His greater redemption.
