Lovely Interruptions

Seeing divine purpose in unexpected moments

John 13:34–35 — “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Opening Reflection

Interruptions rarely feel pleasant. They disrupt our plans, slow our momentum, and test our patience. Yet Scripture shows us that Jesus often turned interruptions into moments of ministry. Every time His day was disrupted, love became visible. When we begin to see interruptions not as obstacles but as invitations to show Christlike love, God transforms ordinary moments into opportunities for discipleship.

Taking a Devotional View

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus welcomed people who interrupted His path. Whether it was children being brought to Him (Mark 10:13–16), crowds who sought Him when He was withdrawing to rest (Luke 9:11), or the woman who reached out to Him on His way to heal Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5:21–34), Jesus never treated people as inconveniences. He saw them as beloved souls worthy of compassion.

Interruptions reveal the true condition of our hearts. They test whether love is patient and kind (1 Corinthians 13:4). In the small, unglamorous moments—traffic delays, unexpected phone calls, a coworker needing help—we display what kind of disciples we are. These moments give us the chance to live out Jesus’ words: “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Every interruption can become a classroom for Christian maturity. The Spirit uses these moments to develop humility, compassion, and gentleness within us. As we learn to respond with grace, we allow God to turn frustrations into fruit. Ordinary disruptions become holy opportunities to reflect His heart.
