Stepping Into the Fulness of Life

Surrendering Our Will to Walk in God's Prepared Works

Ephesians 2:10 — “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Opening Reflection

Have you ever sensed that something is missing in your Christian walk—even though you are saved by grace? The abundant life Jesus promises in John 10:10 is not found in pursuing our own desires or relying on self-effort. It begins with a profound surrender: yielding our will to the Lord's so that His Spirit can lead and empower us. This surrender is the gateway to stepping into the fulness of life God intends.

Taking a Devotional View

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that salvation is not the end of God's work in us—it is the beginning. We are recreated in Christ precisely for good works that God has already prepared. These works are not self-generated; they flow from dependence on Him. All of God's good works for us begin with the surrender of our will to His, placing our confidence in the Holy Spirit's empowering leadership. This enables us to bring glory to the Father and express the fruit of the Holy Spirit to those Christ died to save.

When we abide in Christ—dying to self so He lives through us (Galatians 2:20)—we no longer strive in our strength. Instead:

Jesus Himself modeled perfect surrender in Gethsemane: “Not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42). His obedience led to our redemption. In the same way, our surrender opens the door for the Spirit to produce lasting fruit and God-glorifying works through us.

Key Thoughts & Takeaways

Key Thoughts

  • Surrender is not loss—it is the pathway to true fulness and purpose in Christ.
  • Good works are prepared by God, not invented by us; they flow from Spirit dependence.
  • The fruit of the Spirit displayed in our lives glorifies God and points others to the cross.

Ask Yourself

  • Where am I still clinging to my own will instead of yielding to God's?
  • Am I relying on self-effort or trusting the Holy Spirit's empowerment for daily obedience?
  • How can I more intentionally express the Spirit's fruit to those around me today?

Heavenly Father, thank You for recreating me in Christ for the good works You prepared in advance. I surrender my will to You today—lead me by Your Spirit. Empower me to walk obediently in Your purposes, bearing the fruit that glorifies You and draws others to the Savior who died for them. May I step fully into the abundant life You designed. In Jesus' name, Amen.
