Praise That Begins Before the Breakthrough
2 Chronicles 20:21–22 — “And when he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who were to sing to the LORD and praise him in holy attire… And when they began to sing and praise, the LORD set an ambush…”
Opening Reflection
Jehoshaphat faced an impossible situation, yet he moved forward with worship rather than fear. He sent singers ahead of the army, declaring God’s steadfast love before the battle was won (2 Chronicles 20:21–22). This is the heart of faith-filled praise: rejoicing in who God is long before you see what He will do. Praise is not a celebration of outcomes but of God’s unchanging character.
Taking a Devotional View
Praise precedes power. Scripture shows that as Judah began to sing, God moved. Praise shifts our eyes from the problem to the One who holds all power. When we choose worship over worry, God strengthens our faith and reveals His nearness (Psalm 22:3).
Praise is prophetic. It declares trust in God before the victory unfolds. Jesus taught His followers to pray believing they have already received what they ask (Mark 11:24). Praise aligns our hearts with this confidence—speaking as though God’s promise is already in motion.
Praise builds peace. Gratitude becomes a shield in seasons of fear or waiting. “With thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God,” Paul wrote, promising peace beyond understanding (Philippians 4:6–7). Praise steadies the soul.
