You Snooze You Lose
Awakening to the urgency of faithful living
Ephesians 5:14 — “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Opening Reflection
There is a kind of sleep that does not involve a pillow. It is the slow drift of spiritual dullness—the quiet settling into comfort when urgency should stir us awake. Scripture warns that opportunities can be missed when hearts grow passive. The call to awaken is not harsh; it is merciful. God rouses us because He loves us and desires that we walk fully in His light.
Taking a Devotional View
Paul’s words in Ephesians carry both warning and promise. The warning is that spiritual sleep can cost us clarity, obedience, and impact. The promise is that when we rise at Christ’s call, His light floods our lives again. Awakening begins with awareness—recognizing where compromise, distraction, or indifference may have crept in unnoticed.
To awaken is to respond. It means leaning into conviction rather than resisting it. It means choosing prayer over passivity, Scripture over scrolling, obedience over delay. The Spirit does not shame us awake; He invites us awake. And when we answer, we rediscover joy, purpose, and fresh sensitivity to His leading.
Every day presents moments that shape eternity—words spoken, kindness extended, obedience embraced. When we remain spiritually alert, we steward those moments well. Christ’s light is not merely something we admire; it is something we walk in.
